Captain’s Coffee was founded by Ty Gates in 1995 in Homer, Alaska. Starting with a small two man operation and a hand built drum roaster, Ty set out on his quest to provide the community of Homer with fresh roasted coffees from around the world.

Ty grew his operation with many loyal customers calling him requesting his coffees, because they just couldn't find the quality anywhere else!

At the heart of Captain's Coffee Roasting has always been the beloved 12 kilo San Franciscan drum roaster. Churning out thousands of pounds of delectable roasts for our fellow Alaskans under the careful oversight of a passionate roaster. 

As his knowledge of the industry developed, Ty focused primarily on purchasing shade grown, organic and fair trade coffees. By sponsoring estate farms, and becoming part of the Audubon Societies “Bird Friendly” program he has made a lasting contribution to good earth practices.

January 1st, 2018 Lance and Rachel Prouse became the proud new owners of Captain's Coffee Roasting Company.  Rachel has 8 years experience in this coffee shop and she and Lance look forward to the coming years in the wonderful business of coffee!
